What is The Poodie?
What is The Poodie?
The Poodie company produces and sells eco-friendly bamboo toilet paper and paper towels. It donates part of its profits to humanitarian and environmental projects.
Why use bamboo?
Why use bamboo?
Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing and most versatile resources:
- It can grow to 1 metre a day, reaching maturity in 4 to 6 years (compared with 20 to 30 years for a tree).
- It releases 30% more oxygen than most trees and absorbs more carbon dioxide, helping to combat climate change.
- It grows back quickly after cutting, with no need for replanting.
So, it's an ecological and renewable alternative, as well as being biodegradable and recyclable.
How soft is bamboo toilet paper?
How soft is bamboo toilet paper?
Although softness can vary from person to person, most of our customers find our bamboo toilet paper comfortable, strong, and free of powdery residues. Compared with more traditional papers, it also offers better hold when wiping.
Is bamboo toilet paper suitable for sensitive skin?
Is bamboo toilet paper suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes, it's particularly recommended for sensitive or irritation-prone skin. It's hypoallergenic and free of perfumes or harsh substances.
Is traditional toilet paper so bad for the environment?
Is traditional toilet paper so bad for the environment?
Unfortunately, it is. Over a million trees are cut down daily to make traditional toilet paper. These practices destroy forests, harm biodiversity and release vast quantities of CO₂.
That's why we favour renewable sources (bamboo) to reduce the impact on the planet.
How is bamboo toilet paper different from conventional toilet paper?
How is bamboo toilet paper different from conventional toilet paper?
Bamboo grows much faster than trees (5-6 years vs. 20-30 years), making it a renewable, environmentally-friendly resource. Moreover, bamboo toilet paper is hypoallergenic, softer and more substantial.
Is bamboo toilet paper gentler on the skin?
Is bamboo toilet paper gentler on the skin?
Yes, bamboo has naturally smoother, non-irritating fibres. More over, The Poodie limits the use of chemicals to maintain its hypoallergenic properties.
What happens if I'm not satisfied with my purchase?
What happens if I'm not satisfied with my purchase?
Customer satisfaction is at the heart of our approach. If you are unsatisfied, we offer a refund.
Are your products vegan?
Are your products vegan?
Absolutely! We don't use any ingredients of animal origin in manufacturing our papers. Even our glue is starch- and water-based. And we don't test our products on animals
(unless you consider cute human butts to be “animals” ...).
What are you doing about PFAS?
What are you doing about PFAS?
PFAS (perfluoroalkylated and polyfluoroalkylated substances) are highly resistant to degradation and are found in many consumer products (packaging, textiles, etc.). Although we do not voluntarily add fluorine to our products, minute traces may appear due to the presence of these substances in the environment (groundwater, etc.).
- We have conducted rigorous tests and our products remain below 10 ppm, the legal standard for declaring a product “fluorine-free.”
- We continue to work with our suppliers to eliminate all residual traces of PFAS.
- Despite their almost universal presence, we want to be transparent and do everything possible to minimize their impact.
In short, our products are safe and recognized as such by Canadian regulations.
What bleaching agents do you use?
What bleaching agents do you use?
Unlike traditional chlorine (bleach), The Poodie uses for bamboo toilet paper: chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) and hydrogen peroxide. We know that customers generally prefer lighter-coloured paper, but we're always looking at unbleached options to satisfy the more environmentally conscious among you.
Your toilet paper must be super expensive, right?
Your toilet paper must be super expensive, right?
Contrary to what you might think, The Poodie is often cheaper or equivalent to classic brands if you compare the price per
sheet rather than per roll. This is because The Poodie offers longer rolls (e.g., 370 or more), which reduces the cost per sheet.
We regularly update our price charts so you can compare our prices per 100 sheets and see how competitive our prices are. Every purchase also contributes to our donation program for humanitarian and ecological projects.
Here's a handy formula for toilet paper if you want to get in on the math:Total price / Number of rolls / Number of sheets per roll x 100
- For example: 48 rolls of 100% recycle toilet paper for $60:
- 67/48/370 x 100 = 37c for 100 sheets
For example, our 48 rolls of 100% recycled toilet paper cost 37 cents per 100 sheets, 31% less than other online brands, whose average cost is 42 cents per 100 sheets. Based on Febuary 2025 prices below:
- Total price / Number of rolls / Number of sheets per roll x 100
- For example, 48 rolls of 100% Recycled TP for $60
- $60 / 48 / 400 x 100 = 31c per 100 sheets
For example, our 48 rolls of 100% Recycled TP are 31c per 100 sheets which is 26% cheaper than other online brands where the average cost is 42c per 100 sheets. Based on the July 2024 pricing below:
What's the difference between 2-ply and 3-ply?
What's the difference between 2-ply and 3-ply?
2-ply corresponds to two layers of paper,
while 3-ply has three. The 3-ply is thicker and more resistant, but both are high quality.
Can I buy large packs?
Can I buy large packs?
Yes, to reduce the carbon footprint of transport and avoid ordering too often, we offer family sizes (box of 48 rolls).
Can bamboo be recycled?
Can bamboo be recycled?
Yes, bamboo paper can be recycled, just like traditional wood-based paper. It's an excellent way of reducing our environmental footprint while limiting tree-cutting.
Can I compost bamboo toilet paper?
Can I compost bamboo toilet paper?
Absolutely, under certain conditions. Mix it with other organic waste and maintain a good wet/dry balance in your composter. However, avoid using paper that is soiled with chemicals.
Can I use your toilet paper in composting toilets or septic tanks?
Can I use your toilet paper in composting toilets or septic tanks?
Our toilet paper is designed to disintegrate quickly, making it ideal for composting toilets and septic tank systems. The tests we've conducted confirm that there will be no adverse effects under normal conditions of use (not a whole roll at once, of course!).
Can I compost your packaging?
Can I compost your packaging?
Our packaging is made of paper, so it is theoretically compostable. However, we haven't tested it specifically for growing food for human consumption. As a precaution, we recommend recycling or reusing it for manual activities.
They do not contain toxic substances, but they do not add valuable nutrients to your compost. So, if you have very sharp compost, you can compost it in small doses or throw it in the recycling garbage can.
Why package each roll individually?
Why package each roll individually?
We must protect our rolls from moisture, dust, and environmental microbes, so each toilet paper and paper towel must be wrapped in fine paper. We think this is better than plastic for several reasons:
- Plastic-free option: We chose paper over plastic film because we feel it's a more environmentally friendly alternative.
- Moderate impact: Individual packaging only increases the total amount of paper we use by around 1%, as we have reduced the width of our rolls by 3.5 mm.
- Decorative and reusable: Our packaging is attractive, reusable (for DIY projects), and recyclable. It is a change from other papers' classic, monotonous, bland packaging. It brings life to your kitchen and toilet.
We believe that the energy invested in packaging is far outweighed by the visibility and protection it provides

Where are your products made?
Where are your products made?
After careful consideration, we've decided to locate most of our production in China, a choice we fully accept. And why? Because :
- We can use recycled paper and cardboard packaging rather than plastic (local Canadian producers didn't offer the same flexibility regarding patterns and finishes).
- We have access to many local raw materials (post-consumer recycled paper and bamboo), eliminating the need to import these resources from other countries.
- Production cost savings enable us to pass these benefits to our Canadian customers.
We work closely with our partners to guarantee high-quality standards and respect for working conditions. Our blog post on our production manager explains more.

Are a million trees cut down daily to make toilet paper?
According to conservative estimates, 1 million trees are cut down daily to produce traditional toilet paper. An independent environmental report, commissioned for
greater transparency, even suggests that if 100% of paper were made from virgin
fibres, this figure would rise to 1.9 million.
At The Poodie, we use bamboo because we don't want to contribute to this massive waste.
